Strategic Human Resource Management

This course introduces the strategic planning role that human resources professionals play in organizations. Students will confront the challenges and demands of rightsizing, technological change, corporate repositioning, cost containment, productivity improvements, and the consequences of relocation, outplacement and retraining of staff. An understanding of the essential elements of the human resource planning process in organizations will be provided. Students will acquire knowledge in analyzing, assessing and programming for the human resource requirements of organizational, business and strategic plans.  This course is a credit toward both the Diploma in Human Resource Management and the CHRP designation. 36 credit hours

Labour-Management Relations

This course examines the labour relations and the collective bargaining process in Ontario with some reference to other jurisdictions.  Topics include the history of the union movement; legislation affecting labour-management relations; collective agreement bargaining and administration; and grievance administration and dispute resolution.

ADED 4P96 Introduction to Leadership Theory in Adult Learning

This elective course examines major theories, approaches, models and themes related to the study of organizational leadership. Emphasis is placed on the utilization of self analysis tools to discover personal application of the theories presented to explain work and non-work situations and possible remedies for problem situations.  This is a credit toward the B.Ed degree and the Certificate in Adult Education36 credit hours
ADED 4P96 Application of Leadership Theory in Adult Learning
This course applies specific leadership skills relevant to 'Authentic Workplace Situations'.  It is an opportunity to build upon the knowledge gained in 4P96 concerning the theories , current and developing about Leadership in Western society.

ADED 4F31 Foundations of Adult Education

This course introduces and examines the theories, practices and contexts of adult education in order to explore the past and current foundations of adult education. Opportunities to make connections to the varied contexts of adult education and training, both nationally and globally, will be provided through the use of constructed dialogue, experiential activities, learning objects, and critical analysis and reflection. This is a Core Course credit toward the B.Ed degree and the Certificate in Adult Education. 72 credit hours

ADED 4F34 Work and Learning in Organizations

This course focuses on the investigation of work and learning communities by providing an overview to the field of organizational learning. Areas explored include leadership, power, conflict, change, diversity, organizational culture, barriers and motivators to organizational learning, and the role of the adult educator within an organizational context. 72 credit hours

ADED 4F33 Curriculum Design for Adult Learners


This course investigates the design and evaluation of curriculum, including the pedagogy, educational practices, and application to a unit of content. Learners will select, apply and validate a curriculum development model that is congruent both with their personal philosophy of teaching and their organizational context and design a minimum of 30 hours of curriculum on a subject area of their choice. Throughout the development of their curriculum, learners will apply relevant adult education theories and practices drawn from traditional and current design models and take into consideration learner needs and characteristics as well as the organizational milieu for which they are designing learning. 72 credit hours

This course introduces learners to an critical examination of what happens in the classroom and the application of critical thinking to improve practice.
